Candidate 137 Film Marketing Project

In Sixth Form, one of my major media studies projects was to create a series of marketing materials to promote a fictional full-length Netflix film. These included a Blu-ray cover, multiple advertisement posters, and a radio interview of the lead actor and the director hosted by a fictional podcast company.

The project gave me full creative control and allowed me to put my writing skills to the test, the narrative premise of the film spotlights an alienated worker (Dubbed ‘Candidate 137’) in a dark dystopian future where the masses of people have become subject to hard industrial labour as the only means of survival. The protagonist plays a crucial role in disrupting the status quo of this authoritarian system and leads a brutal rebellion in hopes of finding a better life.

The Poster on the right showcases elements of the narrative to the audience and creates enigma through the suggestion of a psychological theme as well. The reviews indicate a trustworthy guarantee of enjoyment and entertainment by watching. All images on this poster were taken and edited by myself and are 100% original.

The above poster features the main three characters of the film. Their positions on the screen are used to symbolise their parts in the films narrative; with the main character taking centre stage in the foreground and the character on the right being more dimly lit, suggesting he may be a villain in the story’s structure. The gear cogs (Created on Adobe Illustrator) are an important piece of iconography that hint at the films industrial themes, which may interest a sci-fi dystopia fan audience. due to budget limitations, AI was used to create the dramatic background shot on the left.

This landscape poster is entirely original, with all outfits, props and makeup organised and directed by me. Photo editing was especially important for this piece as it establishes character and narrative dynamics which the audience can infer upon viewing. For instance ‘137’ being marked on the protagonists jumpsuit identifies him as the core character of the story in correlation with the title. The overarching size of the background character clearly represents his power in the story, while his sinister grin conforms to the villain archetype.

Radio Interview of Cast Members

This radio interview diversifies the methods of advertising the film and therefore encompasses a larger audience. It publicises the famous figures involved in production and therefore lures their fanbases to watch.
